Nic Brown Some record labels, like the clothing and pseudonyms which render their artists unrecognisable, are so happily cloaked in the trappings of anonymity, it's a wonder they choose to exist at all. Whether this is the case with Canadian outpost A Person Disguised As People I really couldn't say but how their astonishing records seem largely ignored by.the electronics-focused music press is major mystery. Take "Landing", the mini-album in question by Para Palabras. I can't imagine a single member of the review staff at Resident Advisor not being utterly smitten by its exquisitely tactile coalescence of soft-focus, downtempo electronica and urging readers to gorge on it. Music of this quality is all too rare so when it comes along we should be entitled to proclaim its wonder with impunity. Visit A Person Disguised As People's Bandcamp page and buy one or preferably both of their Forest City Series label compilations. A seductive delight. Favorite track: Gemelo.

about

For Natalia.

'Landing' was created in fits and starts, in different environments and contexts. It’s a short record, but it was meant to represent a time of rapid and profound change in my values, worldview, and self-image. All of these changes were, to some extent, influenced by people and experiences, but physical settings had even more bearing on how my mind—and by extension, the music I made—oriented itself.

This process gave way to a record that’s half aural photo album, half film score. It was never really designed to be listened to actively, but rather to complement another experience—riding the bus, driving a car, catching a flight, watching the world go by. I suppose it’s music to travel to. Whatever activity it accompanies, I just hope it deepens that experience in some way."
