‘memoraie / 2001 - 2005’ is a collection of the very first tracks that I made using a computer and a couple pieces of software.

I moved to London in 2000 and was fortunate to meet people straight away who had relatively similar tastes in music and who were already into aspects of ‘production’. They were kind enough to set me up with a bit of kit and get me started. This whole thing was predicated on the generosity of others. It seems it's still that way.

The initial tracks were made in my fathers basement. The rest were made in various houses and apartments as I moved from one musical home to the next, learning from new friends and bandmates when and where I could. The collection was bounced to CD in ’06 and put into storage (i.e. a shoebox) for safe keeping (the PC is long gone, likely even now, jammed into a hidden compartment under a stairwell on Central Ave).

’03 - ’11 landed me heavily preoccupied with bands (mine included) and bookings and so these tunes sat for a time, forgotten and nearly disregarded. Those two chapters did their time and did them well and so ‘memoraie...’ eventually found a home, uploaded to Bandcamp in 2011 for a release date of April 19th, 2011.

The influences are forever obvious to me: Autechre, AFX, BoC, Brothomstates, Clark, Dntel, Eno, Fennesz, Labradford, múm, Pan Sonic, Plaid, Pole, Proem, Reich, Two Lone Swordsmen, μ-Ziq (not that any of these tracks are at all equivalent TO said artists' works, but they were most certainly inspired and influenced BY them).

There was a spontaneity in this music that I’ve not been able to replicate since. I was young and it meant everything. Every note. That’s not a lament. It was and is a celebration.

Meticulous and very skillfully assembled, and I feel like it generated emotions in me that I'm not even sure I've had before. Mike has this vocabulary with sound and tone that isn't like much else you'll hear - from the very start you'll get a real sense of being escorted through this really interesting terrain and you'll come out the end a changed person. Enjoy, but take time with it - don't rush it. It's to be savoured and appreciated. Buddy Peace
